Houses for sale in the countryside 'could increase'

There could be more houses for sale in the countryside if the
government's plans are accepted.
Last month, the Community Right to Build proposals were released,
which outlined proposals to give communities more power to build
homes and develop their areas without having to have planning
permission first.
Steve Briggs, planner and partner at the Taunton office of property
consultancy Smiths Gore, said the scheme would free local
authorities from constraints to develop their communities.
If they are given this freedom, it is likely that this could lead
to an increase in the number of houses for sale in the countryside
over the next few years as more properties are developed in the
area.
Mr Briggs added that it could also encourage more people to stay
within their communities if there is an improved infrastructure
there - a result that could also boost the property market in
villages.
Last month, the National Housing Federation found that 70 per cent
of people in the countryside supported plans to build more
affordable homes there.
