Historical maritime Brixham

The civil parish of Brixham is a popular tourist and fishing
destination located in Devon. The town is on the southern end of
Torbay and is situated just across the bay from Torquay. Brixham is
most famous as a fishing port, and trawlers regularly leave the
port for this exact reason.
Those looking for
property for sale in Brixham would love the chance to live in a
coastal area with a real feel of small town living. With a
population of just over 14,000, Brixham is the perfect place for
those who are perhaps retiring to get away to, spending their time
away from the big cities and breathing in the fresh sea air.
Fishing and maritime enthusiasts would be very much at home in
Brixham. The port is very busy, and trawlers can regularly be seen
coming and going. And with all those miles of coast around, keen
anglers will certainly not be lost for finding something to
do.
And for those whose interest is historical, Brixham has many
historical points of interest to take in as prospective buyers
relax in the small town environment. An exact replica of Francis
Drake's ship The Golden Hind, is permanently moored in the town, in
celebration of the fact that the people of Brixham were able to
watch his defeat of the Spanish Armada from the Brixham port in
1588.
Brixham has long been a point of maritime historical interest, with
Vikings having landed at the town, as well as part of the fleet of
ships which sailed to France on D-Day in 1944.
In the future, transport links could also be improved, as Brixham
was named in a list of towns which would benefit from having a
train station, after its own was closed in the 1960s.
